Zoom: Polling
The polling feature for Zoom meetings allows you as the host to add some engaging interaction between you and your meeting attendees. You can create a standard poll with multiple-choice question and/or multiple answer polling questions. Alternatively, you can create advanced polls or quizzes with additional question types and options. During your meeting, you will launch the poll and be able to show real-time results to your attendees. Polls can be answered anonymously, if desired.
If you have not yet downloaded the Zoom Desktop application, go to the Quinnipiac Zoom web portal (https://quinnipiac.zoom.us) in your web browser and click Download Client at the bottom of the page.
Enable Polling in Settings
-
Go to the Quinnipiac Zoom web portal (https://quinnipiac.zoom.us) and click Sign in.

-
You may be directed to the Quinnipiac Single Sign-On (SSO) page where you will need to login with your standard Quinnipiac username and password.
-
From the Zoom web portal, click Settings in the left-hand navigation menu and select the Meeting tab at the top. Then click on the In Meeting (Basic) sub-section and scroll to the Meeting Polls/Quizzes section. Ensure that its toggle switch is ON.
Create a Poll Before a Meeting
Polls can be created manually, one poll and one question at a time, in the Zoom web portal. If you have scheduled a Zoom meeting using the Zoom integration in Blackboard or Canvas, though, you can create polls and questions there by importing a CSV file based on a template provided by Zoom.
Creating a Poll
-
From the Zoom web portal, click Meetings in the left-hand navigation menu and then click on the name of the meeting you want to add polling to. If you do not have a meeting already scheduled, click on the + Schedule a Meeting button to schedule a meeting.

-
Click on the Polls/Quizzes tab.

-
Click on the + Create button.

-
Click on Untitled poll 1 at the top and give the poll a name. Then click on the question type drop-down menu and select the question type for the first question. Finally, enter your answer choices. If you would like more than 2 answer choices, click on + Add choice. See the table below for the rest of the optional poll features.

Item
Description
A
Required – Require answers for polling questions
B
Show as dropdown – Display Zoom poll answers as a dropdown menu
C
Create breakout rooms – Hosts can create breakout rooms in meeting based on participant answers
D
Upload image – Upload an image to a Zoom poll
E

-
Optionally, if you would like to require answers to be anonymous, click on the gear icon in the upper right-hand corner and check the box.

-
Also optionally, if you would like to convert the poll question into a quiz, to set correct answers for scoring, toggle the Make it a quiz switch to ON. Then click on the set answer link, which will then allow you to select the correct answer choice. Click Done to confirm answer choice.

-
Click the Preview icon to see what the poll question will look like in the meeting. Click Save when you are ready to move on.
Import a Poll via Blackboard or Canvas Zoom Integration
Any Zoom polls created by importing a CSV file can be manually edited in the Zoom web portal. Otherwise, the CSV file can be imported and re-imported to overwrite existing polls. A CSV import will only import Single Choice and Multiple Choice questions for a standard poll at this time; however, once imported you can make the poll into a quiz with correct answers in the Zoom Web Portal.
NOTE: If you wish to make a poll anonymous, you must edit it in the Zoom web portal after importing the CSV file to do so, as this is not possible via the import process.
-
Open your Canvas or Blackboard course and navigate to the Zoom tool.

-
Click on the Zoom meeting you have scheduled.

-
In the next window after opening up the scheduled meeting, click Import CSV to search for and select the CSV file with your polls and questions. Your polls will be added to the meeting. To change them, you can either edit them individually online in the Zoom web portal or modify your CSV file and re-import them here to overwrite the existing polls and questions.
(Optional) The CSV template provided is helpful in building the polls and questions in the correct format before importing them. Click Download a CSV Template to download the file. Once you make changes to the template, you can save it with a specific file name.
NOTE: When downloaded, the template file is in CSV format, and it must remain in that format to be imported correctly.
